Dr. Benjamin Lewis grew up in Methodist congregations, and while he mostly stayed within that denomination, there was always a sense in the world around him that if someone didn’t like their local Methodist church, they could visit a Nazarene church, or a Wesleyan congregation, or “shop around” until they found something that they liked or felt was a fit for them and their family.
Since becoming Catholic, Dr. Lewis shares how he’s come to appreciate the reality of the geographical parish; that it matters to go to Mass with our neighbors and be a real and diverse community of believers together in a specific location under a pastor appointed to a specific area, rather than the consumer-driven approach that is so often taken in regard to finding a place to worship.
