Mixed First Impressions of the Mass – Dr. Jennifer Frey

As an atheist exploring Catholicism, Dr. Jennifer Frey’s first experience of the Mass was somewhat mixed. One one level, she was underwhelmed: the 60’s architecture and bad carpet, the weak homily, and what seemed to be an apathetic response from the congregation. On another level, it was an important lesson for her of just how much humility Christ has shown in being present to us in the Eucharist, in the midst of parishes full of broken and flawed human beings.
