OTJ Short – Can a Baby be a Christian?
Catholics, Orthodox, and several other Christian traditions believe that Baptism can be performed on infants, and that it affects their very real entry into the family of God.
But some Christian groups believe that a person can’t become a Christian until the age of reason, and Baptism may or may not be part of that process.
Matt Swaim, who comes from a Wesleyan background, reflects on how someone joined the family of God in pre-Christian times, and what that might mean for how we think about the membership of babies in the age of the Church.
