Dr. Diego Ospina was raised Catholic in Colombia, but drifted away from the faith of his youth after emigrating to the United States and developing a relationship with Jesus in a Pentecostal congregation. As a semi-pro soccer player, his faith started to take a backseat to his ego, and for a brief time, he wandered away from his Christian roots. Later, when he met his wife, he was drawn to her Mormon faith because of its emphasis on the intersection of faith and family. All along, he felt stranded between cultures because of his immigrant status; he didn’t feel fully Colombian, nor did he feel fully American. When he began to study Christian history, he was finally able to find a true spiritual home in the universal embrace of the Catholic Church, whose truth creates a bond that transcends geography, culture, and even time itself.
