What Held the Early Church Together – Dr. Francis Beckwith

A cradle Catholic who spent decades as an Evangelical after a born-again experience, Dr. Francis Beckwith held strongly to belief in the Divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and a number of other theological concepts that nearly all Christians hold in common. As he studied the early Church, however, he began to realize that these beliefs which are uncontroversial among Christians today were extremely controversial in the first few centuries of Christianity, while questions of Mary, the Papacy, the Eucharist, and other issues that divide Catholics and Protestants today were uncontroversial and held by most Christians without debate.
