Shaun Rieley grew up in an independent Bible church that saw an individual’s personal interpretation of the Scriptures, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as the highest authority. But as Shaun points out, that understanding of authority led not to unity, but division, and a lot of confusion as to what the Bible really taught on a number of issues. When he started exploring the Catholic faith, Shaun began to realize that it was reasonable to believe that the same Church that agreed upon what books should be in the New Testament could also be trusted to have the right interpretation of what those books taught.
