When Julianne Burkholder’s husband started going back to Mass, she started going with him; for a while, they’d been struggling and praying together about where they should be going to church.
Her husband had been raised Catholic, so for him, it was revisiting a familiar world. But for Julianne, she felt a bit lost and confused at first, and wondered how she could participate, especially since as a non-Catholic, she knew she shouldn’t receive the Eucharist.
Finally she asked her priest: how can a Protestant participate, if at all, at a Catholic Mass?
His answer not only made her feel more a part of what was going on, but also helped her better understand the meaning and purpose of Mass, with Jesus at the center of it all.
