Matthew Akers was raised a fundamentalist Christian, while his wife, Elisabeth, grew up in an Episcopalian household. After Matthew graduated from a Reformed Episcopal seminary, he and Elisabeth met and married, and attended Anglo-Catholic services together. In those first years of marriage, they both began to look more closely at the foundations of their liturgy, the historical basis of their theology, and the devotional heritage of their favorite prayers. Through a series of personal encounters, including Elisabeth’s experience at a women’s study group full of Catholic moms, they became more and more convinced that the Holy Spirit was calling them to full communion with the Catholic Church.
There’s a lot to their story! They’ve also shared it in written form on our site.
