Fr. Larry Heimsoth: Former Lutheran Minister

September 10, 2001 Conversion Stories, Lutheran

Father Larry was born in a very pious Missouri-Synod Lutheran home. At the age of six he first believed that God was calling him to be a Lutheran pastor. He went to seminary and became a Lutheran minister in 1971. In his first parish, in Texas, through contact with Baptist and an Episcopal priest friend he underwent a spiritual renewal and a deeper commitment to Christ. In 1973, he became friends with a Catholic priest at the same time his denomination was experiencing a doctrinal crisis. This began his journey toward the Catholic Church. He finally entered the Church, in 1996, and was ordained a Catholic priest, in 1999, with a dispensation from celibacy granted by St. Pope John Paul II.
