Ellen Amarante went to Presbyterian, Baptist and non-denominational churches growing up. Deacon Gregory grew up Catholic, but did a good job of compartmentalizing his faith apart from the rest of his life, and he continued to stay connected to Catholicism mostly out of fear of hell.
As their relationship progressed, they knew they had to have a unified faith as a couple, and that exploration led to Ellen becoming Catholic, and Gregory strengthening his faith and discerning a vocation to the diaconate.
