Collin Raye: Former Southern Baptist and Country Music Star

June 11, 2012 Baptist, Conversion Stories

Country music star Collin Raye grew up in Arkansas near the Texas border, in a Christian family that was predominantly Southern Baptist.  From an early age Collin knew Jesus and made his public affirmation in Baptism at age 12.  His mother was musical and both parents encouraged the musical development of their children.  While in high school, Collin and his brother had a band that performed in local nightclubs and following graduation went where they could be paid to play.  Eventually they ended up in Reno, NV.  Collin’s faith was always important to him, as was using his mind to grow deeper in understanding.  While in Oregon, he came to know a devout Catholic who invited him to Mass.  It was a game changer for Collin, who soon began to explore fully the richness of Catholicism.  At age 23 he converted.  Collin has enjoyed huge successes, but also points out some very difficult times as well.  Though it all, his faith has remained a constant.
