After the excitement of being received into the Church, converts often find themselves a little lost as to how to become involved in Catholic life. Here are some hopefully helpful practical pointers for converts unsure of what to do next.
“We weren’t meant to be pew-warmers. After tasting the thrill of being used by God in my life as an evangelical, to go to sitting in my pew twiddling my thumbs was incredibly frustrating. The key was finding a spot where I could be used…”
– Lisa Brenninckmeyer, Wife, Mother, Founder of Walking With Purpose
So what should I do to become involved?
Start with prayer.
Ask God to remind you of the gifts He’s given you and to lead you where you belong in the Mystical Body of Christ.
We’re happy to pray for you as well! Contact us to make an anonymous prayer request or — even better — join the Coming Home Network and let us know how we can be praying for you.
“Lord, my God and my loving Father, you have made me to know you, to love you, to serve you, and thereby to find and to fulfill my deepest longings. I know that you are in all things, and that every path can lead me to you. But of them all, there is one especially by which you want me to come to you… Send your Holy Spirit to me: into my mind, to show me what you want of me; into my heart, to give me the determination to do it, and to do it with all my love, with all my mind, and with all of my strength right to the end.”
– U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Meet with your priest.
Converts will sometimes sit for months wondering how to become involved and never think to ask their priest what the needs of the parish are.
