Continuing our study of Romans, we’re right in the middle of the section in which Saint Paul addresses the question: “Why haven’t all the Jews responded to the Gospel of Christ?” They were the chosen people, but yet the majority of the Jews did not accept Jesus as their Messiah. Why? In this first half of chapter 10, Paul addresses the question of faith versus works of the Law, and the necessity of confessing with our lips and believing in our hearts.

I have a Jewish friend who became a Catholic 2 years ago. She goes to the synagogue on Saturdays and to Mass on Sundays. At the church coffee social -a Swedish tradition- on Sunday she confided in me that she is hurt by what St Paul writes about Jews. She told me that Christians have treated Jews badly throughout time. To make things worse once a Catholic spat at her on hearing that she is Jewish. Is there any Jewish convert who can give me tips on St Paul that I can give her?
