Dr. Russ Rentler – Deep in Scripture 10/06/2010 – Growing in Holiness through Suffering

Colossians 1: 23-24

[23] provided that you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, not shifting from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which has been preached to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.

[24] Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,

2 Corinthians 4: 8-12

[8] We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair;

[9] persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed;

[10] always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies.

[11] For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

[12] So death is at work in us, but life in you.

Philippians 3: 8-11

[8] Indeed I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as refuse, in order that I may gain Christ

[9] and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, based on law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith;

[10] that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

[11] that if possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
