Deacon Patrick Wilson – Deep in Scripture 05/30/2012

June 1, 2012 Deep in Scripture 2012

Today’s Scriptures: James 1:12, 1 Samuel 3:1-10, Philippians 2:6-11, Philippians 4:4-9

James 1:12  “Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation, for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of life that he promised to those who love him.”

1 Samuel, 3:1-10

[1]Now the boy Samuel was ministering to the LORD under Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no frequent vision.

[2]At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow dim, so that he could not see, was lying down in his own place;

[3] the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down within the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was.
[4] Then the LORD called, “Samuel! Samuel!” and he said, “Here I am!”
[5] and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call; lie down again.” So he went and lay down.
[6] And the LORD called again, “Samuel!” And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” But he said, “I did not call, my son; lie down again.”
[7] Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
[8] And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the LORD was calling the boy.
[9] Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and if he calls you, you shall say, `Speak, LORD, for thy servant hears.'” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
[10]And the LORD came and stood forth, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for thy servant hears.”

Philippians 2:6-11

[6] who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
[7] but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
[8] And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.
[9] Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name,
[10] that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
[11] and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Philippians 4:4-9

[4]Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

[5] Let all men know your forbearance. The Lord is at hand.
[6] Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
[7] And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
[8]Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

[9] What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, do; and the God of peace will be with you.
