Marcus Grodi and Msgr. Jeffrey Steenson continue their study of St. Irenaeus of Lyons by looking at how St. Irenaeus was impacted by the witness of his mentor, St. Polycarp of Smyrna.
Doing so illustrates just how close St. Irenaeus was in proximity to the apostles; he had received his training from Polycarp, who had received his training from John the Apostle, the only one of the Twelve who was present at the foot of the cross.
It’s a fascinating look into how the deposit of faith continued to be preserved through the teachers the apostles appointed, and through the teachers those teachers appointed, from generation to generation all the way to the present day.
