Dr. Susan Treacy: Former Episcopalian

Susan discusses spreading the Gospel through art with Marcus. Susan was baptized at the age of five in a Presbyterian church. Soon after the family moved to another town where they attended an Episcopal church where she learned to love the liturgy. In college she fell away from faith. Her journey back to faith began when she was invited to an Edgar Cayce group. When she went to graduate school some Evangelical friends challenged her in her beliefs in Cayce and brought her back to more orthodox Christianity. Her journey to the Catholic faith began when she began to attend a Catholic Charismatic group, which was across the street from her Episcopal parish. Susan holds a doctorate in historical musicology from the University of North Texas, an M.Mus. in opera from the Manhattan School of Music. Her research interests are in Catholic liturgical music and English devotional song. As a performer Dr. Treacy directs the Women’s Schola Gregoriana at AMU. While at Franciscan University she directed the Schola Cantorum Franciscana and she was a section leader and soloist with the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the editorial committee for The Adoremus Hymnal and is on the board of the Church Music Association of America.
