Marcus welcomes friend Scott McDermott, former atheist to discuss the verses of the Bible that made an incredible impact on his life. Marcus and Scott discuss what a “father” means, same-sex attraction and culture, slavery to sin, idolatry, suffering, addictions, and healing.

Scripture verse: Ezekiel 11: 17-20 and Romans 8: 14-17 (also, Galatians 2:20, 4:1-6)

Scott McDermott

Scott McDermott grew up in Kentucky in an unchurched family. In reaction against what he saw the ignorance of fundamentalist Christians around him, at a very early age he declared himself an Atheist. At the same time, as a teen, he developed same sex attraction. In college, he became immersed in politics and the gay lifestyle. Depress and feeling empty he began to read Catholic authors, such as Flannery O’Connor, Evelyn Waugh, and Thomas Merton. He then began to visit the local Catholic parish and eventually praying the rosary. Through this route, God led Scott to faith and grace though Jesus Christ and membership in the Catholic Church.

Scott has written for National Catholic Register, Homiletic and Pastoral Review, and other Catholic publications and has appeared on EWTN’s The Journey Home. His biography of the Catholic Founding Father, Charles Carroll of Carrollton: Faithful Revolutionary, is available at www.scepterpublishers.org.
