Dr. Robert Koons
Rob Koons is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught since 1987. Koons specializes in metaphysics, philosophy of science, and philosophy of religion. He is the author of two books, Paradoxes of Belief (Cambridge University Press, 1993) and Realism Regained (Oxford University Press, 2000), and the co-editor (with George Bealer) of The Waning of Materialism: New Essays on the Philosophy of Mind (Oxford University Press, 2010). Tim Pickavance (a former student) and he are co-authors of a forthcoming textbook, Metaphysics: The Fundamentals, to be published in December by Wiley-Blackwell.
Koons earned a B. A. in philosophy at Michigan State, a B.A. with First Class Honours in Philosophy & Theology at Oxford, and a Ph.D. from UCLA. He has written over forty professional articles, including papers on arguments for God’s existence, the relationship between faith and reason, and the critique of philosophical naturalism. He was elected in 2009 as a Senator-at-Large of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Koons has served two terms on the executive committee of the Society of Christian Philosophers. He has been a visiting scholar at Nanjing University in China, and he is a visiting research fellow at the James Madison Program at Princeton University this year.
