So many of us are concerned about the comings and goings of our political officials and temporal rulers, and it is right to take a strong interest in such things. But as St. Paul reminds us in Philippians 3:20, our true citizenship is in heaven, and we have to constantly remember that it is God who ultimately guards our well-being. Marcus and JonMarc Grodi reflect on these thoughts from St. Paul, as well as Psalm 4, which reminds us that it is the Lord alone who makes us to dwell in safety.

“But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will change our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power which enables him even to subject all things to himself.”
Philippians 3:20-21

“Be angry, but sin not;
commune with your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.
Offer right sacrifices,
and put your trust in the Lord.
There are many who say, ‘O that we might see some good!
Lift up the light of thy countenance upon us, O Lord!’
Thou hast put more joy in my heart
than they have when their grain and wine abound.
In peace I will both lie down and sleep;
for thou alone, O Lord, makest me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:4-8
