John was baptized and reared United Methodist but stopped going to church in the sixth grade. After high school he read an article in Time Magazine about a lay brother, Brother Bill, in Chicago who worked with the gangs. This was the first nudge for him toward the Church. After a period of depression, his aunt and uncle introduced him to Jesus. He became active in a campus student fellowship. While studing Spanish in Mexico, he was inspired to study Catholicism on the internet, where he discovered EWTN. Later he worked with Blessed Mother Teresa’s order the Missionaries of Charity. In 2006, he was received into the the Catholic Church. His depression finally began to lift after experiencing the sacraments of Confession and the Holy Eucharist. John is now studying for the priesthood in the Order of the Holy Cross.
