Cliff Bajema: Former Christian Reformed Minister

June 9, 2014 3 Comments

Cliff was raised in the Christian Reformed faith. After attending Calvin College and Seminary, he was ordained a minister of that denomination. He was a minister for 42 years. He describes how a deep hunger for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist led him and his wife Home to the Catholic Church.

This was a wonderful interview that aired this week, and I felt Cliff Bajema was very honest in this conversation. I especially appreciated the analogy of the two sides of the “arch” regarding free-will and salvation of the elect. Cliff also gave a very honest appraisal of the Catholic view of Mary, the Mother of Jesus. I urge the visitor here to watch the entire program. Cliff also says that the current Catechism of the Catholic Church is possibly the most important book of the 20th century. Certainly, in my view, anyone examining the Catholic Church should not be without this Scripture-drenched book as a vital reference point.

By the way, the US senate chaplain referred to in the program was Peter Marshall (1902 -1949); a Scottish-American preacher and pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, Washington, DC, and twice appointed Chaplain of the United States Senate (cf: Wikipedia).

It is is a very touched interview especially when Mr. Bajema recites the meditating prayer which turns into a contemplative prayer. I have heard it several times and find it quite moving.

Thank you, Deacon Johnny! This was an excellent review! I often wonder why the Catechism of the Catholic Church isn’t on the syllabus of all philosophy programs — although, I can probably answer why 🙂
