Deacon Jeffrey grew up in an Episcopal parish, in Maine, where his family had worshiped for many years. His faith in God was very personal and didn’t depend much on the local faith community, but in collegeit faded away. After he married an Irish Catholic girl, both of their faiths continued to be compartmentalized, attending church whenever they felt the urge. God finally got Jeffrey’s attention when he nearly died while attempting to rescue a man who fell through ice. The faithfulness of the Catholic pastor of the man whom he attempted to rescue drew Jeffrey to the fullness of the Catholic Faith and eventually to the ordained ministry of the permanent diaconate in Christ’s holy Church.
Why was the deacon wearing a collar? I went back on the video and never found an explanation. Thank you!
Lynn, in the Catholic Church, not only priests, but also deacons and seminarians have the right — and often the obligation — to wear a clerical collar. It identifies their vocation.
Thank you. That’s what I love about being Catholic- I learn something new every day!
