Read the Bible and the Catechism in a Year!

The Catholic Church has always venerated the divine Scriptures, and teaches that “Sacred Scripture is the speech of God as it is put down in writing under the breath of the Holy Spirit.” She also, “forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ (Phil. 3.8) by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. ‘Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.’” (From the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, nos. 9, 21, and 25)

Many of us today do not know our faith well. But thanks to the loving initiative of Pope John Paul II and the Bishops of our Church, we now have a universal Catechism which explains what Catholics are to believe in a format that is easy to read and addresses current issues.

By making a commitment of only twenty to thirty minutes a day, you can prayerfully read through the entire Bible and/or Catechism in one year! Use whatever Bible translation you like that contains the entire Canon of Scripture. This guide is divided by month, but you can start at any time.

Are the readings changed at all?

    • CHNetwork_Staff

The design/layout is really the only noticeable difference. Thanks for asking!

What a great idea! This is just what I needed to motivate me to read the entire Bible and the Catechism. I’m into my first week and loving it. It only takes 15 minute a day.

Oops! I am way behind and am making every attempt to get back on schedule. I need to know where I should be at this point. Today is July 9, 2013. Please let me know what number I should be at. I guess I could go back and count but I could be reading a lot of Bible in the time it would take me to do that. God Bless.

      Cheryl,
Thank you for your note. The reading guide is flexible and doesn’t need to be started or completed on any particular day. However, if you began on Jan 1 and want to complete it this year then today would be day 191. Best wishes in your reading commitment!

It took me a year and a half, but gosh darn it I did it! Just stick with it, and you’ll get through it. I’m actually thinking about starting over. :)

    • CHNetwork_Staff

      Cindy,
I’m sorry you were having difficulties with the file. It printed fine for us in the office. It prints best on legal size paper. If you still have difficulties with the file, you might wish to order a card-stock copy from the CHNetwork. You may do so by going to our website https://store.chnetwork.org/public/store/product/5003 or by calling the office at 740-450-1175.

I just finished this (Bible only) and am starting it again with Bible and Catechism this time around. What a rewarding experience this was over the past year. This reading program truly yielded spiritual fruit and was manageable. God bless.
