Hello All --
Someone suggested I drop in here and say "hello" since I'm a new member! I've been a member of the Catholic Answers forums since the beginning and dropped by here to see if I could get some answers for two potential converts I'm helping with questions about the Catholic church.
The Journey Home program was one of the instruments God used to keep me in the Church at a time when I seriously considered leaving. I'll share more on that in the conversion story area!
I'm a wife of almost 24 years and mom of two teenagers. I've struggled for the last 8 years with chronic illness issues; some of which will probably never go away. I am a writer and editor (when my energy allows), love to sing and play guitar and piano (though not very good at any of them!), love crosswords and, of course, studying the faith!
Thanks for welcoming me and for already helping me with some questions from posts already written!
May God continue to bless and guide us all in our ultimately journey home!

Welcome Didi. I hope you find a home here. This forum is smaller than the Catholic Answers site and, personally, I think has more of a family feeling. We all care for each other and support each person in our journey to the faith. The cradle Catholics here have been supportive of us who are searching the truth and our moderators are the best anywhere.
Again, welcome.
Rich

Didi, how nice to learn something about your life. You are a busy lady.
I'm sorry to hear about the health problems, though your struggles with those have perhaps contributed to your spiritual growth. Is that your view?
I wish I could be disciplined about doing a daily crossword since I've heard the practice helps keep the mind sharp.
Rich does a pretty mean Rah Rah for the CHNI Forum, don't you think?
Way to go, Rich!
Glad you're here, Didi, and I look forward to reading your posts.
Becky

Absolutely! I just posted my re-conversion story that explains this in more detail.
Mother Teresa once wrote to a friend: "Our Lord must love you much to give you so great a part of His suffering." I'm learning this -- slowly!

I just finished reading it, Didi.
Thank you for the blessing I received!
Grace and peace,
Becky

Hi Didi,
Wow, what a great name! Is it short for anything? Mine is really Denise.
We have a lot more in common too. I have been married 25 years and also have two teenagers. I also have a 9 and 10 year old. I used to play the guitar and piano a lot, but have kind of gotten away from it. I grew up playing and singing for the "guitar masses" back when they first started at our parish. Finally, I have dealt with health issues since birth related to congenital cataracts and glaucoma. In the last year alone I have had a cornea transplant and a retinal detachment. I am daily presented with visual challenges and the opportunity to prove my trust in the Lord!
You will love this forum. I personally find it to be a warmer, more respectful environment than the CA forum, but admittedly, I do wander over there occasionally too.
Anyway, welcome and thanks for the introduction. I will be sure to check out your re-conversion story.
Dede

Hi Didi!
I'm still rather new here too, but find this one of the true shelters on the internet. Welcome and thanks for posting your story. I'll make a point of digging it out and reading it.
I'm impressed with your active life and can empathize with you regarding health issues.
Blessings,
Rod

Thanks so much to all of you for your warm welcome!
I have to laugh at a couple of people who talked about my "active" or "busy" life because I'm basically home-bound! But I guess in light of it all, I do stay pretty busy with my family and trying to support others in their faith! Guess "active" is somewhat relative, huh?!
God's blessings on you all!

Didi, You are so blessed to have one of the great Bishops in our country up there in Oregon. Bishop Vasa of the Baker Oregon Diocese is a wonderful leader and Father of the faithful in Eastern Oregon. I look forward to meeting him someday when my wife and I retire to Bend in a few short years.
Oregon needs good leaders and he is heading the way to developing solid and faithful priests.
I pray Oregon will follow the faithful teachings of Bishop Vasa.

Yes, he is a wonderful bishop! I live in the Portland metro area, however, so he's not my bishop . Our parish has used some of his documents, though, including the statment of faith for all catechists to complete and sign that they will be faithful to the teachings of the Church, attend Mass regularly, believe and teach that Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist, etc. (things that should be taken for granted, but many catechists don't!).

For all those who want to read Bishop Vasa's regular columns, go to this site. You can find all he has written for the Sentinal there. http://www.sentinel.org/
I don't know anything about the others on that site.

Dear Didi,
Welcome to the gang! I've always enjoyed this chat forum since I've been a member, some three hundred posts ago. It's addictive, but a great addiction indeed! Great people, wonderful conversations and no matter how strongly we might agree or disagree on issues, points, arguments, you name 'em, when one of us needs prayers, we all know the doors of everyone's hearts are open and ready to ask the Lord's help.
God Bless you on entrance into His Church and your continued journey!
Steven
PS: Ya gotta remember you have to eat, take care of your family, get some exercise, and sleep, etc. in addition to chatting on this forum. So remindeth my wife in so many words.

Ha! Yes, I know they can be addicting. Fortunately, my health and energy don't allow me to be on for too long at any one time. Guess God knows He needs to guide me on things like this!
Thanks for your kind words everyone!
