If you are able to catch EWTN Live this evening at seven (Central), say a prayer for these two priests and for their community, The Fathers of Mercy---very dear to my heart.

Will do, Becky.  I usually watch EWTN Live with Fr. Pacwa.  He is working overtime lately, with his new series about the life of St. Paul, his Wednesday night program, and his Tuesday night program Threshold of Hope.  I will pray for the Fathers of Mercy.  Are they associated with the third order you have been visiting?

I think that is a very good program. I watch it frequently. :)

Hi, Marsha,

The third order, OCDS (Secular Carmelites), meets at a nursing home run by Carmelite nuns. (Please, God, let me go there when I can no longer care for myself.) The nun who guides us is about four feet, ten inches tall. If she told me to jump, I would respectfully ask, "How high, Sister?" on the way up. :)

Our spiritual assistant, a priest, turned out to be a relative of mine--seems our fathers were first cousins. Can you believe that? He and I are the only Catholics we know of in the family. Another touching coincidence (?)-- he was responsible for conceiving and building the Marian shrine that is so dear to me.

The Fathers of Mercy are a religious order of priests with a superior general who reports directly to Rome. They preach missions across the country and around the world. They are talented preachers and can be trusted to be faithful to Church teaching. My daughter-in-law's brother is a priest there. He and another priest led me into the Church. A third priest there oversaw my catechesis and confirmation. Fourteen priests attended my confirmation--a gift from them I will always cherish.

Check out their website to see the new Divine Mercy chapel, nearing completion. Click here. I will be grateful for any prayers offered on their behalf.

Tonight at seven. :)

Becky

Doesn't it make sense that you, a PK, would hold dear a group of preachers?!!  This coming Saturday is the 3rd of the month, when our Franciscan 3rd order group meets.  I plan to be there and check it out.  There is a small order of Poor Clares who live near here also, mostly elderly.  But they are not secular, they are cloistered.  I need you to come give me a kick to make the first move toward one of the groups!

Let's see, I'll pick up Kim M. (who encourages me in my poking and prodding); then we'll swing by Virginia and get Marshall to transport us to S. Carolina on his Baptist barge (if we can find waterways). I'm sure Marshall would love to visit the Franciscans.

I suggest the four of us visit BOTH places. I'd hate for you to miss the chance to spend some time (even a few hours) with the Poor Clares. Maybe they'll allow you to do LOTH with them and, if you're very blessed, to ask them questions about prayer and increase in virtues.

Life is short. Meet all the holy people you can while health permits. :)

Love you, Marsha. We'd like a report on your visit(s). :D

Becky

Oops! :embarrassed: This wasn't the 3rd Saturday, next week is.  See, I do need ya'll to tell me when it is, and drive me there in my present state of dementia!  Well, when I do get there, I'll give a complete report.

There was a nice writeup in this week's Catholic Miscellany about the Poor Clares.  They recently moved into a new monastery just outside of Greenville.  They are having some open house visits, I would like very much to attend, but I'm not good at doing things by myself.  If I am successful at dragging someone else along, I'll let you know.

Somehow, I think that Baptist barge could travel on land if Marshall wanted it to!  Honk when you get close, I'll come running!
