I finally got an account (to join the chat).  I decided to use my name from the Irish Living Historical Society... the character I portray has been Catholic for 1000 years.

Regards,
Bob (Brandubh)

Hi, Bob,

Welcome to the CHNI forum. I would enjoy hearing more about the ILHS.

How did you come to be involved in it?

Mostly my kids made me join so they could.   They started going to Renaissance fairs and listening to Irish music.  Dublin, Ohio has an Irish festival   http://www.dublinirishfestival.org/

At the Festival, The Irish Living Historical Society started re-enacting Ireland 1000 years prior to the current year.  This was a great time for Ireland... it was united under King Brian Boru, had fought off Vikings and was sending missionaries to Europe.  Lots of goods things...  the Book of Kells, flourishing abbeys, and of course only One True Church.

Brandubh is the "butler" (head of household, aka "food taster") to the High King.  We have a 30 ft diameter "fort", lots of weapons, workshops and an Abbey.  It's great fun to talk about how St. Bridget of Kildare had a welcoming peat fire at her abbey for 1000 years (day and night)...  until Henry burned down the abbey.

Regards,
Bob / Brandubh

Looks like fun, Bob.

Kentucky has a Glasgow with extensive Scottish celebrations
each summer.
