I'm in the middle of planning a Confirmation retreat for a class I'm in, and hopefully, if it turns out, I may submit it to my parish for possible future use.  At any rate, I'm trying to get a broad array of thoughts and ideas for youth retreats in general.  What are certain features that you think are essential to a successful retreat?  What works well?  What doesn't work?  Problems one might generally encounter?  Number of volunteers?  Good activities to do?

I've never been on a retreat, so my practical knowledge from experience is limited.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  I have a general idea of where I'm going with it, but I'd like to hear about what others think and experiences you've had.

Thanks!

Is it at a monastary retreat or just a nightly retreat?

oh ok. Well from my experience in my parish, a retreat is supposed to bring you closer to God. So our parish takes a page out of the monks book. They say no talking unless its necessary. And they have lots of stuff to do with the bible. Idk if you want to do a fun camp/retreat but thats what we do.

John

Hi Kayla -

What the individual and group needs are concerning receiving the sacrament of Confirmation should be the focus. In deciding how to address those needs, you can take more of a variety of approaches.

Here's a link to the annual Steubenville Youth Conference retreat website for some possible ideas -

Also, here's additional information on youth ministry from the USCCB -
