SAN ANTONIO - An activist group that tries to raise awareness of sexual abuse by clergy members is asking the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) to do more to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct among its pastors.
Several members of the group Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) stood outside the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, Monday afternoon, asking the nation's largest non-Catholic denomination to take action against what they claim is a growing problem -- sexual abuse committed by pastors. The above excerpt is reposted with permission. As we all know, abusers are not confined to a single group, such as priests. No, the news has shown us that they are sometimes Scout leaders, or Roller-rink operators, or dance school teachers, etc.
This was in the news before about SNAP and the SBC.
Cynically, I think it boils down to publicity and payoffs. Those who were abused have suffered horribly. But it is a great windfall for their lawyers.
