Our small Church is trying to do evangelization. We mail out Church brochures to all the new people that move to our city. I remember on EWTN the Journey Home a program about a Hiermonk. Does CHNI have any evangelization material from this Hiermonk?

The forum staff is volunteer and not directly affiliated with the CHN office, so we can't answer your question. The office is in Ohio; David and I are volunteers who live in Texas and Louisiana, respectively. You can call the CHN office during business hours at 800-664-5110 or write to them at helpers@chnetwork.org.
Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

Hi, Rose, welcome to the forum. Our representation from the Eastern Rites of the Church are rather poor, so I hope you'll stick around and comment as you see fit. I do try to keep the Eastern Churches in mind as much as possible, but since I'm Latin Rite and there are no Eastern churches anywhere near me (only one mission in my state), I have little practical experience.
We look forward to reading your faith story, and to your contributions.

Excuse the stupid Latin Rite question, but what is a hiermonk?

Thank you.
By way of explanation (to others) most monks are "brothers", vowed religious who are the equivalent of "male nuns". A priest-monk (hiermonk) would be a vowed religious who lives in a monastery but is also ordained to the priesthood.

| The Franciscans on EWTN are dressed like monks aren't they? But they are called Father and conduct mass. Are they monks or priests?

Both. But there are some lay brothers among them as well. Usually you will see them proclaiming the first scriptural reading at Mass.

| Rose, I'm curious what the name Ruthenian Byzantine means. Is there a website for it, that gives a little background information? We have a Maronite mass each week in our parish church. The priest is a special favorite of mine. He heard my first confession and was so kind. We also have a Greek Orthodox church here, but I've never been and don't know if they are in communion with the RCC.

I'll let Rose answer about Ruthenian Catholics, but Orthodox (by definition) are not in communion with the Catholic Church. We do recognize their sacraments as valid and the Catholic Church permits intercommunion if no Catholic Church is available, but the Orthodox do not permit Catholics to receive sacraments in their churches except in case of emergency, and our Church urges us to follow their rules.

Ray that is a nice site. If any of you have caugh the 'Light of the East' series on EWTN. Fr. Sopoglia is one of the priest's on there.
Here is a link to bycath.org, since St. Cyril and Methodius site answered your question as to who Ruthenians are. A bit more news about the Eastern Church in general.
