I saw the same show Mark and I was impressed both with his knowledge of liturgy and his sense of humor.  He is coming to Huntsville, AL this Wednesday and I am planning to attend.  I'll let you know how he is in person ...

Mark he has done a lot with Fr. Gray Bean at St. Patricks here.  The people just love him.

Fr. Gray Bean is also a convert - he was a Southern Baptist Preacher - quite a dynamo - and the people out that way love him dearly too.

He produced a 4 hour program for EWTN some time back. I went to his website and ordered the DVD of the program so I could watch all four segments. HE IS AWESOME!

Thanks for sharing that snippet, Mark.  I really enjoyed it.  I had seen him on one of Marcus Grodi's programs -- maybe a Roundtable discussion -- and he was much more subdued.  Seeing him "cut loose" was funny and right on target.  Wow, calling Protestant denominations branches of the Catholic Church really caught my attention!

I remember hearing about this when on my journey more fully into the Catholic Church.  I think it might have been Scott Hahn who talked about how any person who is baptized in the Trinitarian formula (In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit) is a part of the Catholic Church, because there is but one baptism, one faith as in Ephesians 4:4-6:  "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all..."

Does anyone know the name of the series that Michael Cumbie is doing on EWTN?  I'd like to catch it but the series guide doesn't show the names of those hosting each show.

I believe it's called "The Micah Project", but I didn't know it was a series.

I got to see him at the Fullness of Truth in Corpus Christi this February. I enjoyed his presentation.

Michael Cumbie spoke last night at St. Joseph's Church in Huntsville, AL and I have to say he knocked it out of the park.  He was hysterically funny, engaging and quite profound on many points.  His major theme is "no bread on the table, no bread on the floor";  meaning that liturgy and sacraments are God's provision both for his people (bread on the table) and for the spread of the Gospel to unbelievers (crumbs on the floor).  Unless there is 'true worship' (read liturgy), the God's people are not fed and there is no "bread on the floor" for the Gentiles. Cf.  Mark 7:24-30.  However, his presentation hit on many other themes and stories.

He indicated that he will be producing a series of Bible stories for children (featuring  his horse), and may even be featured on a new international Catholic network.

The Church could use a good Catholic "evangelist" and I think Michael Cumbie just might be the one to do it....

Bravo Michael!

He is hysterically funny- I bought all three of his DVDs in the beginning of my move to the Catholic church. My kids were angry and upset and were spouting off all kinds of misinformation that they didn't learn in my home- sad to say they probably learned it in our old church. Anyhow they weren't willing to listen to anything that I said correcting the misinformation or willing to read so I would play these DVDs - they would drift in to our family room then they would start chuckling and sit down and watch. It also showed that despite what "everyone"  knew, the conversion trail leads BOTH ways and that perfectly reasonable people became Catholic-. We all knew people that "used" to be Catholic but had not met any people who "used to be Protestant"
The first inkling that I got of anti Catholicism in our old church was when a close friend who quilts with me  was discussing the turmoil in the Episcopal world and how it was affecting us locally- if there was a split which church would we go to? When I said neither that I trying to find out how to become Catholic she blurted out how can you think of joining a church that sells indulgences and worships Mary? The Mary think I got from my father in law all the time but was surprised to hear coming from an Anglo Catholic, the indulgences thing blew me away since that seemed like OLD (500 years) history. On her behalf I will say that when I told her that I was becoming Catholic she said that she didn't want it to break our friendship and she has defended me staunchly .

I've been in churches with preachers like him! :roflol: He is a hoot! I think it's awesome that God fits us oddball Protestants into His Church somehow. Look at Scott Hahn, Marcus Grodi, and now Mike Cumbie. Kewl! Okay, so Scott and Marcus aren't "oddballs", but still, God fits us in. That's the neat thing.

Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4

Michael made a stunning statement about the number of Protestant clergy who are making the journey home to the Catholic Church.  He said that the year he was received into the Catholic Church (2001?) there were about 100 clergy who made the same journey with the help of the Coming Home Network.  This year, however, there were about 750.  That is a remarkable number if true! Can anyone confirm?
