Deborah, it is obvious that you are trying to follow the Church’s judgment, and we appreciate your confidence in CHN by asking here. But the proper forum for your question is the confessional. The reason I say this is because while there is a general rule regarding the approach you wish to use, it may or may not apply in your particular case. By taking your question to your confessor, you will be providing for two things: 1) personal, one on one advice from the Church’s official source for private moral questions and 2) complete privacy with no possibility of scandalizing those around you.
