| I have a friend who has chronic financial problems. Her husband works regularly but the company he works for only pay him about half the time(long story with no simple solution), sometimes less. She has had her power shut off several times, runs out of diapers for her baby and never has money for gas. My husband and I have paid her power a couple times, bought her baby diapers, etc, as we were able and I have no problem with this. It is what friends do. This past week she mentioned she was running out of birth control, and although she could get it for free from the health department, she had no gas to get there. I could easily drive her when I do my grocery shopping in town at the end of the week but I wasn't sure if that would somehow be wrong for me to do. What would you guys do?

You wouldn't provide a ride for her to get an abortion. It would be hard to turn down help that a friend needs (or thinks she needs) but this is a moral dilemma for you as well as for her.
I agree with Betty. NFP would be more healthy and it does have a good success rate if done right. Well, that's what I hear, but I never tried it myself except briefly for infertility, and then we had our ds and we've never been the same since! If your friend is not catholic she may not agree and her husband will certainly not. I think you are troubled about it because you know it's against what you believe in.

I'm not sure about the ride, you may need to give this a bit of prayerful thought.
What I was going to suggest, Have you ever discussed NFP to her? Maybe considering her difficult circumstances NFP would be a better route all the way around.
I'm not able to have anymore children, but from what I've understood, couples have had some great success with this method and it would be much healthier for your friend.
God Bless, I pray that it all works out for you
Betty

If a friend that close asked me for a ride, I would give it if I was able. I would not, however, offer the ride.

ETA -- Two words for your friend, and totally off topic: Cloth diapers Yeah, I'm kinda freaky, cause I *loved* using them!

As others have intimated, this may be an opening by grace to introduce them to NFP, - which doesn't cost anything.
Without knowing anything about them, there are a variety of resources on Theology of the Body / NFP for high school level through adult, - Ascension Press, Christopher West, Janet Smith, etc.,.
Also, to see if there are any certified teaching couples in your area, take a look at http://www.ccli.org ( The Couple To Couple League).
God bless.

| Last year I helped someone do something she felt she needed to do. Because the matter was important to her and she felt bound to do this I helped not knowing that all I was doing was participating in sin. I had to check the Catechism to know that I needed to go to confession. Now, I am very careful about getting into situations like this. It is hard especially with people you care about.
