During Lent my littles in CCD go fishing for good deeds.  I write a good deed on a fish like "I will share my snack this week"  Then the kids go fishing for them.  (As if the concept was to difficult for you to grasp, I needed to explain it :P )  It's quite the hit, if I do say so myself ;)

But now I'm running out of good deeds, LOL.  So any simple ideas that littles 4-5-6 can carry out easily (and I can fit on a fish!) are welcome.

Some we've done -- pick up toys without being asked, hug someone, clear the table, smile at someone new, let a sibling pick the TV show, hold the door for a person, pay extra attention at Mass, say an extra prayer.  Stuff like that.

So, what can you suggest for us?  LOL, this shouldn't be so hard, but it is coming up with new ideas for little people.

Thanks!! :D

Say something nice to someone who is sad.

Share a snack with someone you don't know very well.

Say something nice to your big brother/sister.

Set the table without being asked.

Hug your dad and tell him you love him.

Hug your mom and tell her you love her.

Study hard and make a good grade, and offer it to Jesus.

Say a prayer if you hear a police car, fire truck or ambulance siren.

Thank God for clouds.

Give your brother/sister a hug.

Thank your priest.

Ask God to bless someone you don't like -- and mean it!

Be nice to an old person.

Tell a family member who would most like to hear it that you love them.

Thank God for grass.

Ask your parents if you can say grace.

Thank God for brothers and sisters -- and mean it!

Oh, I like that !       Cause I is one.

How about: Give your CCD teacher a hug.

Also: Tell Father (your priest) "Thank you."

To a kid that age, everybody are one!

That actually might be a violation of safe environment!

Also: Tell Father (your priest) "Thank you."
I said that one.  I was going to put "Hug your priest" but that safe environment stuff comes up again.

I thought of a bettern one.

Draw a picture to send (or give) to your Grandparents and have someone help you write "I Love You" on the paper.

Grandma and Grandpa will frame it !

We have.

Put some repeaters in there. Kids have limited worlds; how many times each day are they told the same thing? Also, if two different kids get the same nice deed, they might feel a little solidarity.

To add some:

Pray for the sick person when you see an ambulance.

Learn a new prayer (can be as simple as "Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul, Amen.")

I have actually wondered about this before.  I have a little guy now that is very much like my own child.  ~b~u~s~y~  I have done tomato steaking with my own child, and do a form of it in class with this child when I have to.  With littles they are usually more affectionate anyway, and it sometimes leaves me wondering  where the (unobvious) line is IRT showing affection, etc.  I wouldn't turn down a hug from one of them, but I feel my instigating hugs would be inappropriate.  When we are sitting in our circle reading a story, it just seems natural to sort of be huddled close (like we do at home).  I have to remind myself that these aren't *my* kids and to keep a
distance.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that with me and my own kids showing affection with hugs and pats on the back is so natural.  It's hard for me to not extend that to the classroom with younger kids who are still pretty affectionate to begin with.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Whew!
And thanks for all the great suggestions!!
Ali
I don't know how well this'll fit in but...
"Memorize a Bible Verse."
If that sounds too hard; believe me, it isn't. We have AWANA and that starts at 4.
Better still, hide it in your heart. ;)
It's sad that we can't hug children without raising suspicion. I refuse to volunteer with children for this reason. I will let people with children take care of it.
"Jesus wept" is a good Bible verse for those just starting to memorize! My Dad told a story about a kid in his class who got up to say his memory verse and he said, "God cried." At least he got the trinitarian theology correct.
Aw, this is a very sweet, wonderful thread! Working with children is one of the most important things the church can do!  I still remember several years ago, when my wife and I helped out with a First Grade Sunday School class.  One Sunday, we were having them draw pictures, their concepts of some Bible verses we were studying with them. As I sat with my little group, a little girl named Ashby asked her fellow student to move aside a little.  She said, and this still brings a lump to my throat, "I need to be able to see Mr. Buckles! I need to be able to see how to draw Jesus!!" I happen to have a beard, which was much darker back then, so that is what she was talking about, of course. However, I could also feel the Lord using that as an admonition to me that I was to make sure that I  "modeled Jesus" before these children just as all teachers of children, all care givers for children, all parents of children are to model Jesus before them!  I've never forgotten it!  By the way, Ashby later came forward, as was the practice in our church, and professed faith in Christ and was baptized. Her father had done the same just before he had died, a couple of years before.  I pray for God's blessings upon Ashby wherever she may be now.
How about:
Feed the pet at home
Play with the pet at home
Put bird food out
Draw a crucifix
Pray for children who do not get to go to church
Pray for children who are homeless
Light a candle in the church (with help!) for children who are sick
Make a bookmark for someone in the RCIA class
Learn the name of a saint
Make an Easter card for a person in military service in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Pray for a child who has cancer.
Make an Easter card for a child at St. Jude Children's Hospital or your local Children's Hospital.
Pray for the children who have lost a parent in the fighting in Iraq.
Pray for a child who won't have a meal to eat and a warm place to sleep tonight.
Ali, I love the fishing idea!  And all of the good deed responses were great!  I'll have to do this with my kids.  Thanks for sharing!
