Our pastor announced this morning that beginning next Sunday we will enter a "Year of Paul."  Pope Benedict XVI has declared it, and there will be readings for most of the year during mass of Paul's letters to the Romans.  There will also be plenary indulgences.  My question is, can a person obtain more than one indulgence during the year?  Say, could I go every month and receive one?  Certain churches in our state have been designated sites for this observance.

If the wording of the writ of indulgence permits it, yes, it is repeatable. The conditions for obtaining a plenary indulgence are rather strict, so you may prefer to receive a partial indulgence on some occasions rather than strive each time for a plenary one.

I am looking forward to the special time of studying the life and works of Paul, but other than the message I related from our pastor, I haven't heard more about it.  Does anyone know of any special programs or events that are planned?

Since the special year has not yet begun (it starts this coming Sunday, the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul), publication of events has not begun, either. The Vatican has set up a special website, but it’s in Italian, so most forum members will not be able to take advantage of the information it provides.

Incidentally, the Papal Mass for the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul will be carried live on EWTN in the wee hours of the morning, US time, but it should be repeated throughout the day so we mere mortals can see it. My parish pastor is in Rome right now for a seminar, and he will be one of the concelebrants at this Mass.

Wonderful! I love St. Paul; named my first son after him and try to imitate his example as best I can, as he himself urged his flock to do . . .

I heard a program on radio yesterday by Steve Woods and his daughter concerning the upcoming Pauline year.  They have an offer on their website, http://www.familylifecenter.net where you can find a study guide to the life and ministry of Paul, as well as other resources.
