I would take issue only with the statement that St. Thomas lived at a time when the charisms were not in evidence.  On the contrary, the lives of St. Dominic and St. Francis (contemporaries of St. Thomas) were replete with remarkable miracles and other supernatural manifestations. In fact the success of the mendicant orders, Dominicans and Franciscans, were due in part to a manifestation of the Holy Spirit which rivaled the  time of the Apostles and the early Church.
