Is it a sin to lose something that may have been blessed by a priest? and if so, how serious? I would think not too serious since it was not deliberate. I was given a nice rosary (it was probably blessed) some months ago and I think I have permanently lost it. This makes me sad, but I wonder as to the moral issues it does or does not entail.

It would be if you wanted to lose it. And it would, of course, be all the more serious if you worked hard at making sure it was lost.

But you are sad about losing it, so that shows me you didn’t want to lose it in the first place. So how could the loss of it be a sin?

This discussion reminds me of a problem I have been thinking about. I am the only Catholic in the family and I have wondered how my blessed articles would be treated after I am gone. My current dilemma is to leave a request that they be taken to the church office and the church give them to someone who would respect them OR should I leave them to the kids as a tool to bring them to thinking about the Church.

Part of my thinking is being shaped by the fact that when I started studying about the RCC I found an 18K gold crucifix in plain sight in a public parking lot. I bought a gold rope for it and I started wearing it. Every time I wore it I would think about what I was studying. I know it all sounds like a coincidence but then on the other hand Fr. Groshel says there are no coincidences. Who knows? :)
