| There are two churches in our town, that I know of, who have Eucharistic Adoration chapels adjoining their sanctuaries. They both hold perpetual adoration. My question is, during mass is the Blessed Sacrament still exposed in the chapel? At one of the churches, the chapel is not visible from the sanctuary, but the other one has small glass windows making it a little visible from one to the other. Would we be receiving the Holy Eucharist while it is exposed in the other room?

Normally, yes. "Perpetual" means just what it says. The Sacrament is available at all times except during the Easter Triduum. In some parishes, "perpetual" means whenever someone is present in the chapel, and the Sacrament is reserved when someone leaves and no one is there to replace them. It's not truly perpetual, but it is the best that can be done. It is disrespectful to leave the Sacrament unattended.

| I read on the website of a local church here that "perpetual" adoration stops for Mass and resumes again after Mass, this is to prevent confusion about the nature of the Eucharist.

| That was what I was wondering about, how we could be receiving the Body of Christ, and perpetual adoration going on at the same time in the adjoining room. Our church does not have a Eucharistic chapel, we only have adoration on Wednesday afternoon.

| Jesus of course is present everywhere and everywhen all at once but I think they just don't want to confuse people into thinking that because that is Christ over there then this is just bread over here.

I think that's probably a good idea, although I do know churches with Adoration Chapels either separated from the church in a different building or otherwise not directly accessible from the nave or sanctuary that remain open during mass. These chapels are dedicated to adoration and to not contain the tabernacle where the Blessed Sacrament is reserved. The Eucharist for adoration is held in a monstrance with a special receptacle.

| Have you noticed on EWTN they cover the monstrance during Mass and uncover it afterward? Same principle. I was told that even churches with separate chapels should have the Blessed Sacrament in repose during Mass.

| I want to understand something here, Eucharistic adoration is Eucharistic worship, we are worshiping/adoring Christ present in the sacrament? Would it also be true to say w/out the Eucharist there is no mass and there is no Church?

Yes, Mark, that is correct. Christ is God incarnate, and you can’t have a mystical body without a real one to model it on.
