| there is someone in our RCIA that qas baptized Catholic received first communion, but was never confirmed. The pastor wants him to go through RCIA to learn more about his faith before he is confirmed. but meanwhile he is welcome at the table for eucharist. is this ok for someone unconfirmed past the normal confirmation age to receive communion? I have no problem with it, but i was just curious.

Confirmation is not necessary for one to receive the other sacraments, even if one is “past the normal age” for being confirmed. One can be confirmed at any age. In the eastern Churches, under the name of chrismation, it is conferred on infants immediately after baptism. Many times, adults, even of advanced age, who have not received confirmation, do receive the sacrament. This is especially true of converts and reverts, such as the one in your RCIA class.

| David has already answered your question. I just wanted to add my agreement. For example, in my diocese children make their first communion in the second grade and their confirmation in the eleventh grade. They are certainly welcome at the Eucharistic table for the intervening 9 years.

| I also agree, but do not think he belongs in RCIA. He should be in an Adult Confirmation group (there are most likely several others in the same position in the parish) His Sacramental preparation should not take but from 6 to 12 weeks. Private or guided self-instruction would also be an alternative since he would not be reauired to be in RCIA.
