The funny thing is that even when writing his testimony, Dave can't help being an apologist! heh heh
Among those of us (moderators/admins) who have been here for awhile, our roles are clearly defined. Dave is the apologist. David is the intellectual researcher. I am the comic relief.

The relationship between faith and works seems so intimately intertwined that it's impossible to separate them. We are saved to do good works. We are saved for a purpose greater than ourselves.
I've seen the faith/works debate soooooo many times. The debators are always trying to separate them, but they cannot be. It's best to just assume that they go together and get on with serving God every moment of every day. If we walk in the Spirit we will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
Don't look back. Keep moving forward and live life purposefully. May God pour out His grace and mercy on us so we may serve Him well!

I am the comic relief.
I figured that out pretty quickly.

Da Quod Jubes (blue) & Dave (black) were saying:
As I said, I would never have asked you this hypothetical question.
I think it is mostly a Calvinist and Baptist thing. Post-Luther Lutherans understand biblical synergy.
I am quite certain that the Lord will never ask me why I think He should let me heaven.
Me too, because I don't see any examples of this in Scripture.
I hope not, as I am also quite certain that standing before those glorious scars of the Son of God will render me speechless.
This was exactly the line of questioning I got years ago from a group I was centered around. When I did not answer the way they wanted (by the Cross) and started to infact state I had not killed anyone and I do this & that (works) I was immediatly "presented the Gospel". In retrospect, I could see their eyes have a "got one" moment. When he went on to present the Gospel to me I was nodding my head like, DUH, I know that, but it was the way he said that that would illicit an only this fits response. When I left there I was thinking okay well, I never heard it that way before so I guess it's not all wrong. Now that I clearly understand the both/and instead of either/or, I might certainly answer the same AND qualify it so to help him understand that both can apply.
Another local Bible-believing church here makes it a point to go out and SAVE as many folks as possible. My girlfriend who is now an attendee was "saved" (presented the Gospel in a way that illicited and this is the only way response) when she barely knew God. They seemed to just want an assurance for themselves that if she died she would go to heaven. The gal who did the saving has previously stated that it's not a notch for them on their belt so to speak, but that it is necessary to go out and convert the unsaved. I called her on the carpet for it since my girlfriend really did not know God in any way personally or Scripturally. The answer seemed very propetious, basically it was the Holy Spirit would indwell her and therefor move her towards knowing. That aggrivates the wheels off me now!! Not like in this exact moment (well perhaps still a bit) but just in general.
In closing the final statement above (blue) would have me in tears, from my knees to the ground I would go, then face down with blubbering words of incomprehensible understanding that only my Redeemer would know.
May He have mercy on me, the sinner...............Jackie
