For anyone living in the Greenville S.C. area, there is a meeting tonight at St. Mary's Church for anyone having questions about the catholic church or catholic faith.  Fr. Longenecker will preside, and anyone with true interest is invited.  The meeting will be held in Gallivan Hall (behind the sanctuary) beginnng at 7:00 pm.

I that is Fr. Dwight Longenecker, please say "hello" from me. He helped to promote my early books in England some years back now. I've always appreciated that, and his encouragement. I think his books are great.

Now, see! Here is just one more piece of evidence that I need a private plane.
Why, I could jet over to Greenville, meet you for an early dinner, attend the session with you, then jet back to Kentucky.

Maybe we could get a FORUM plane and take turns using it.

Becky

Who's going to pay for the gas?  It can't fly on hot air...and believe me, there's a lot of that around but totally useless in an aeroplane.

Well, I never! I must say, Rich, that response was a far cry from your usual standard of gallantry. :embarrassed:

Pack your bags. You and little John Conlee will be sent to remedial charm school in Switzerland.

:tiptoe:

Stick close to my side, Miss Marsha, in case he gets unruly.

I was going to say hello to Fr. Longenecker for you after the talk but there was a man asking him a long drawn out question apparently so I didn't wait that long, but I'm sure I'll get the chance soon to tell him you are alive and well and keeping us straight here in cyberspace!  He is also doing a lot of writing and continues to do so.  And he is leading our RCIA again next fall, everyone loved him this past season.  I don't know how he has enough hours in the day to do all that he does.

Becky, can I go to Switzerland too?

Love that expression since it makes me feel "at home."
It's the kiss of death when my mother pronounces anything long and drawn out. :D

You know, probably we should both go, just out of a sense of duty, you understand. Rich's wife will, no doubt, join him. She'll need help scouting out all the fancy shops while he's in charm school. :D

How was the attendance at the Q and A session tonight?

Were there any questions asked that caught your interest?

Becky

The attendance was low and it seemed mostly catholic.  However they explained it was a pilot and plan to do more and advertise next time.  It was very well thought out, with an excellent panel of two priests and four laymen (one woman) who each had an area of expertise.  Attendees were given a form when they arrived which was a brief survey and left lots of room to write their questions, and these were handed in prior to the start of the meeting.  After brief introductions and prayer, a moderator read the questions and the appropriate panel member answered.  The questions were the usual suspects: why not women priests, similarities between Greek orthodox and Latin rite, what is meant by the real presence in the Eucharist, what to do about divorce and remarriage, etc.  I really felt like I knew the answers to every question after reading the forum so long!  But as usual, the answers given gave a new insight to old knowledge, and I learned enough that it was worth going.  Anyway, it was worth going just to give the project my support.  And I did see a couple of friends and meet a new one, so it was all good.

I'm very glad you were pleased with it and that an effort is being made to reach out to others.

Even at our OCDS meetings we have a Q and A session with the priest. We jot down questions as we arrive. Later in the meeting he answers them for us. That's how I found out I could not apply an earned indulgence toward a living person. Guess I'll have to order that book Manual of Indulgences (I think is the title.) to get some clarification.

Tell those folks I said they should put you on the next panel. ;)

What is OCDS?  I'm guessing Obsessive Compulsive Disorders?  I hope I'm not offending, but I really don't know what the letters stand for.  Thanks.  Jane

I guess I should have read this thread before going and I could have passed on Dave's "hello" to Father. I spoke briefly with Fr. Longenecker afterwards. I purchased two of his books, and he graciously signed them for me.
