To All,
I am looking for a cheater's uhh cliff notes to the canon law of the Catholic Church. This is my next project to tackle once the suggestions that peeps have posted to my Help I need easier reading material than the CCC that still pertains to the CCC topic.
Is there something on the Vatican website that has to do with canon law.
Sincerely,
Anne

Canon law itself is posted on the Vatican web site (you'll find it here) but it's not a simplified version. That's something you won't find, any more than you'll find a simplified version of the Criminal Code of Justice for your state. Laws, by definition, are complex and precise. Most of the code is not very complicated to read and understand, but some of it is. Most of Canon Law does not apply directly to the average Catholic; it's intended more for bishops in helping to determine exactly how to govern their diocese.
For example, Canon Law spells out the duties and responsibilities of pastors, and the procedure by which a bishop can remove a pastor who refuses to be transferred. It also spells out the canonical rights of that pastor, and the role of any assistant pastor. Sections that deal with the laity cover such things as marital regulations, how often communion can be received each day, etc., but those rules are relatively few. The Canon Lawyer in your diocese (called the Judicial Vicar) and the bishop are the ones who study the law and determine its effect in the diocese.
I'm not saying there is no value in understanding Canon Law (just as there is value in understanding civil law), but the average Catholic does not need a deep understanding. It's much more important to understand what the Church teaches and believes, and that is contained in the Catechism.
