Hello all --
St. Monica's celebration day is tomorrow, and since I took her name at my Confirmation in 2006 I thought I should celebrate. . .
What do you do? Fast? Special prayers? I'll certainly be going to mass, but I thought something beyond that might be appropriate.
Thanks

| St. Monica is my hero. How many times have I asked her to pray for my son the way she prayed for hers? Countless! You couldn't have picked a better patron for perseverence, patience, and stubborn faith when all seems to be lost. I have unfortunately never celebrated her feast day in any special way. I should go to mass and offer my intentions for whomever she is helping. Thanks for the reminder.

Mass is the most appropriate. Beyond that, it's really up to you. The Irish celebrate St. Patrick's feast a little differently than most of us would honor a patron saint, and an altar such as St. Joseph's Altars in Italian celebrations of the Feast of St. Joseph might be overkill. These are really cultural celebrations and not religious.
I think going to mass and then just keeping her in your thoughts and prayers for the day would be a fitting remembrance.

Thanks for the great question! Saint Monica is my patron saint also.
I did go and do a short bit of reading about her and saint Augustines life the other day in preparation for her fiest day.
I will definately will be praying and thinking about her tomorrow.
Betty
