http://www.thefemaleview.com/eleven-year-old-rape-victim-wants-abortion/#comment_352016
I don’t know if this is the right way to do this, but I found a blog posting on orble.com concerning a n 11 year old Romanian girl who’d been recently raped and wants to have an abortion. Of course, I’m asking for prayers to the Lord and Mary to help defray this girl from going through with something she obviously has no idea about it’s real long-lasting ramifications.
But I think we can pull off a miracle if enough of us can flood that blogsite with tons of loving messages encouraging that girl to give that baby life and not compound an already tragic situation. Tell your relatives and friends who don't belong to the Forum as well.
Thanks a bunch!
S.

| Stephen, I will pray for the young girl and for the right outcome, but I read the blogsite and have no wish to enter into that kind of fray. They are already calling each other hypocrites and I know my blood pressure would go up. For me, prayer is the right option. I am amazed that an eleven year old could even conceive, and either way, she is in for continued trauma.

Eleven-year-old rape victim taken to UK for an abortion
London, Jun 28, 2008 / 01:12 am (CNA).- An 11-year-old Romanian rape victim has been flown to the United Kingdom for an abortion after she was refused one in her home country. The case has ignited a controversy that has put Orthodox Christian groups at odds with a Romanian Orthodox Church spokesman who said the case was exceptional and the decision to abort should be up to the girl’s family.
The girl was allegedly raped twice at the age of ten by a 19-year-old man while she stayed with his family at a village in the northeastern Romanian county of Neamt, the Telegraph says.
The girl’s pregnancy was not discovered until her child had reached 17 weeks, which is 3 weeks past the timeframe allowed under Romanian law for an abortion. The country allows abortions up until the 14th week of pregnancy and then only if the mother’s life is in danger or if the fetus suffers deformities.
The father of the girl said the alleged rapist had threatened her.
“He told my daughter that we would beat her if we found out what had happened, and that we would abandon her, so she kept quiet,” he said, according to the Telegraph.
The pregnancy was discovered, the father said, when she complained of stomach pains and was taken to the hospital.
Romania’s medical community, child rights groups, and its public have been divided by the issue.
Two medical panels have examined the girl, who is now 21 weeks pregnant. The first decided in favor of an abortion, while the second rejected an abortion and declared the pregnancy to be “natural.”
Vica Todosiciuc, head of the Cuza Voda maternity section in the north eastern city of Iasi, said the panel ignored concerns that the pregnancy resulted from rape because the rape had not been proven and because the penal code does not allow for any exceptions.
“This was a very difficult decision for the doctors to make,” Todosiciuc stated, the Telegraph says. "They searched for a medical reason which would allow them to authorize a termination, but none was found."
Constantin Stoica, a spokesman for the Romanian Orthodox Church, which is the largest church in the country, said the Orthodox Church regards abortion as a crime, but that this belief applies to normal circumstances and not to incest or rape. Mr. Stoica elaborated, saying that the girl was in “an exceptional situation which must be treated in an exceptional manner and the family is the only one to make this decision.”
Twenty different Orthodox groups in Romania oppose the abortion and had threatened to press charges against government officials had they approved one. The groups also promised to raise the child if the family lacks the resources to do so, according to the AP.
A wealthy person in Britain has paid for the cost of the abortion and the family’s airfare. In Britain, abortion is legal up to 24 weeks into a pregnancy.

I agree. Posting on the blog will not help anyone. Only prayer can make a difference.
I think we also need to pray for the Orthodox, who don't seem to have a consistent policy on abortion. Murdering a baby, even in cases of rape or incest, can never be the right choice for anyone.

No problem, and thank you both. I understand. I haven't seen all of the posts since I added a couple earlier today. Some are pretty rough and it'd be best for me alone now to respond since I'm already linked in it to carry the spear for us and do so with Christian dignity. But Rick, thanks for putting the CNA story out. I wasn't aware of that angle, and that's much better.
But let's keep them prayers'a comin'.

Romania Capitulates to International Pressure and Approves Abortion for 20-Week-Old Fetus
Nation's physician's council denounces verdict, warns that it has no legal validity
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman
BUCHAREST, June 27, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - After much "domestic and international pressure", according to the British newspaper The Telegraph, a Romanian government panel has approved the abortion of an unborn child at more than 20 weeks gestation, despite the prohibition against abortions after 14 weeks.
The nation's Council of Physicians denounced the verdict, stating that it was nothing more than a legal opinion, and that any doctor who carried out the abortion would face legal consequences.
Their warning echoed that of over 20 Romanian Orthodox groups who have demanded that the law be obeyed. The groups have promised to raise the child if the family lacks the resources to do so. Romanian Orthodox Church officials in the country have refused to denounce the abortion, however, claiming that their condemnation of abortion doesn't necessarily extend to rape and incest cases.
The case, which involves an 11-year-old girl who says she was raped by her uncle, has been the subject of controversy in Romania since a hospital ethics panel ruled earlier this month that an abortion could not be carried out.
Under Romanian law, abortions after 14 weeks can only be performed to protect the health of the mother. The pregnancy, however, was proceeding without complications, the panel stated.
After the case drew international media attention, the government agreed to examine the situation, and issued its ruling today, apparently basing its decision on an expansive concept of "health" that includes the "psychological" health of the mother.
"'I want to go to school and to play. If I can't do this my life will be a nightmare,'" the girl wrote in a letter to the committee. Committee member Vlad Illiescu claimed, based on these words, that "the girl's mental health would be severely affected if she had a baby".
Despite the pro-abortion ruling, the child's mother has said that she will obtain the abortion in Britain, where a Romanian businesswoman has agreed to pay for it. Abortions can be obtained in Britain up to 24 weeks of pregnancy.
Possibly in response to the continuing controversy, the child's father has stated that "there's nothing that can be done here."
"On Tuesday we're going and that is our final decision," he added.
