Hi guys, I wasn't sure whether to post this under the Confession topic or the prayer request topic but went with prayer request because I'm not really looking for advice per se. I'm looking maybe for a big hug or attention as the consummate drama queen.
When I went to my First Confession I had this list of sins I committed written down right, and the first time I didn't want to take forever so I sort of summed up a lot of stuff and didn't specifically say everything on the list so it only took like 5 minutes. And in my heart I feel like it's been forgiven, you know? But lately I've been bothered that maybe I was too vague on some things such that they are worse than I made them sound.
So prayers for me to know what to do. And to quit fretting and trust in Him would be nice too. His peace.
Oh yes and I also need guidance in possibly getting a promotion. Might as well tack them on there. It would mean leaving where I am working now and some hard feelings and I'm not sure whether it is God's will for me to do so just yet.
So that's two specific things: confession and promotion. Just guidance. In general. Stuff going on. Thanks..

Might I suggest that you make an appointment to discuss this with your priest? Tell him just like you told us (with appropriate details, of course) and at the end of the discussion, he will offer you absolution. You can walk out with a clear conscience.

Hi, Anne,
Here's the big hug you wanted!
I think your experience is probably fairly common. It's a challenge for me, Anne, but you said no advice; and I'll honor that
I thought you were going to say you dropped the list of sins and were now living in terror over who found the list.
I will pray you are blessed with a special measure of guidance.
God bless,
Becky

Hi Anne,
This one could possibly go either way. I think there is probably usually some slack given for a first confession, and it is a bit of a "catch-all" (since one can't possibly remember every sin for years, anyway). But it could be that some (or many ) priests would want you to be more specific. The best thing to do would be to go to another confession and simply ask the priest if the increased specificity is required. Then you can have peace of mind. Whatever he tells you, you can live by. It's the priest's call, and it could vary from priest to priest, but the one you are with when you confess is the one whose advice you are bound to follow. If he does something wrong (which is fairly rare in the confessional, I think), then it is on his conscience, not yours.
I can't give any specific advice on the promotion as I don't know eough and there are many factors involved. Generally speaking, prayer is always good, and I would recommend talking to as many people as you can, who know you, and (even better) who know something about the situation involved. As you ponder the competing factors and your responsibilities, often the choice (I find in my life, anyway) to be made becomes pretty clear (which I take to be God's guidance). God often speaks to us through other people. Making more money is not always automatically God's will. We often assume this is the case, but it's not, because there are other important things beyond a higher income.
I hope things simmer down a bit for you and that your anxiety and "stuff" lessens. I'll be glad to give ya a big hug, too!:

Oops. I see you say you weren't looking for advice. If I messed up, just let me know and I'll delete this response! I'm the typical guy, always looking for solutions to problems . . .
